I love days like this. The days where I get to combine my two favorite hobbies. The days where I have completed a knitting project and I get to photograph it!
"I've got it! I'll name it 'Strawberry Sunset'!" my daughter exclaimed. She had been pondering a few options for what she wanted to call her new sweater. She chose strawberry because I said the color reminded me of a strawberry Laffy Taffy, and sunset because the color reminded her of a sunset. Sounds logical to me!
With an early school release on Wednesdays, I thought today would be the perfect day to get some shots of my girl in her wooly new shrug. But, being the procrastinator that I am, I was still sewing the ribbon on at the last minute and we didn't get to the park until just after 4:00 pm. Boy did that turn out to be a blessing!
The sun was hanging low in the western sky. It wasn't yet sunset, I'd say it was more like twilight, and my daughter was feeling beautiful and cooperative. She was inspired by her surroundings, and I was inspired by her dazzling smile. The photo shoot just clicked (pun intended) and I'm feeling pretty pleased with our time together.
I just don't know what I like the most: the way the sweater turned out, the fun of using my new camera, or the way the sun shines warmly on her hair.
This one is my favorite. While not the best for giving a detailed look at the sweater, this frame was a simple moment that became magical by the sun and the trees around her. Plus it helps that she isn't giving me a cheesy grin or funny face.
Okay, back to the subject at hand ... the shrug!

Yarn: Rowan Big Wool in Tricky
Time Elapsed: Yeah right! Like I could keep track of that with all of the moving we've done in the last month.
Modifications/Notes: I followed the instructions as written except instead of a rib on the hem and sleeves I opted for a sturdier moss stitch. I also added a silk satin ribbon (in pink of course!) that I hand-stitched to the inside.

Thank you, thank you! She is proudly wearing it to school today :) It is slightly big on her but that just means that she can keep wearing it as she grows.
